BARREL's Resources & Mining vertical feeds Lithium Valley India Inc. (BESS manufacturing), Micro Nuclear / SMR projects (nuclear fuel), Molten Salt Heat Storage (thermal energy), and Pumped Hydro Storage (reservoir infrastructure) — creating an unmatched self-sufficient clean energy supply chain.
Why Raw Material Control Changes Everything
The global energy transition is fundamentally a materials story. Solar panels need silicon. Batteries need lithium. Heat storage needs sodium and potassium nitrate. Nuclear power needs uranium or thorium. Pumped hydro needs the right geology and water. Every clean energy technology has a raw material dependency — and whoever controls those materials controls the energy future.
BARREL understood this from the beginning. Our Resources & Mining vertical is a deliberate, strategic decision to build a company not held hostage by commodity markets or supply chain disruptions. By controlling our key raw materials, BARREL delivers cost certainty, supply security, and quality assurance that no purely project-development competitor can match.
This transforms BARREL from a project developer into a world-class, vertically integrated clean energy enterprise — one of very few companies on earth that can truthfully say it controls the complete chain from mine to megawatt.

Solar Salt Production — Fuelling Heat Storage
Molten Salt Thermal Energy Storage uses a precisely blended mixture of Sodium Nitrate (NaNO₃) and Potassium Nitrate (KNO₃) — known as "Solar Salt" — as its working thermal fluid. This salt is heated to above 560°C during daytime solar generation and stored in insulated tanks, releasing thermal energy for power generation or industrial process heat during night or cloudy periods.
India is one of the world's significant producers of sodium and potassium nitrate — through natural mineral deposits in Rajasthan and chemical production across the country. BARREL's molten salt mineral activity secures the supply, blending, quality assurance, and delivery of these critical heat storage inputs — primarily from domestic sources, with international backup sourcing.
- Sodium Nitrate (NaNO₃) sourcing — 60% component of Solar Salt blend
- Potassium Nitrate (KNO₃) sourcing — 40% component of Solar Salt blend
- Advanced ternary salt blends — NaNO₃ / KNO₃ / Ca(NO₃)₂ for lower freezing point
- Salt purity testing and quality certification — thermal stability and corrosion analysis
- Salt blending, pre-melting, and first tank fill operations management
- Long-term salt supply agreements with domestic and international producers
- Periodic salt chemistry sampling programme for operating heat storage plants
- Corrosion inhibitor supply and ongoing salt quality maintenance for all plants
60% NaNO₃ + 40% KNO₃ — the proven, widely deployed thermal storage medium globally.
Rajasthan deposits and India's chemical industry provide reliable, cost-competitive salt supply.
Solar Salt remains chemically stable and thermally active above 560°C — proven over decades globally.
Solar Salt can be drained, collected, and reused — contributing to a circular materials economy.
Reservoir Engineering — The Giant Battery's Foundation
Pumped Hydro Storage is fundamentally a civil engineering achievement. Two reservoirs — one high, one low — connected by tunnels, penstocks, and reversible pump-turbines. When electricity is surplus, water is pumped uphill. When power is needed, water flows down through turbines. Gravity stores the energy. BARREL's reservoir development capability delivers this infrastructure from first survey to final commissioning.
Beyond pumped hydro, BARREL's reservoir engineering serves multiple purposes — agricultural irrigation, drinking water supply, flood moderation, and aquaculture. This multi-purpose design philosophy maximises the social, economic, and environmental return on every reservoir investment and strengthens community relationships in project areas.
- GIS-based topographic analysis and satellite data for PHS site identification
- Hydrological assessment — catchment area, runoff modelling, and water balance
- Upper and lower reservoir site selection — elevation differential, volume, geology
- Dam type selection — earth-fill, rockfill, concrete gravity, or arch dam
- Spillway, outlet works, and emergency drawdown system design
- Geotechnical investigation — foundation treatment, grouting, and seepage control
- Environmental and social impact assessment — downstream ecology and communities
- Water rights, irrigation NOC, and inter-state water agreements coordination
- Multi-purpose reservoir design — irrigation, drinking water, and flood moderation
- Long-term reservoir sedimentation management and dredging programme planning
Greater elevation difference between reservoirs = more energy stored per cubic metre of water.
BARREL's reservoirs serve pumped hydro, irrigation, drinking water, and flood control simultaneously.
Well-designed dams and reservoirs function for over 100 years — ultimate long-life infrastructure.
BARREL's reservoirs contribute directly to regional water security — a critical social benefit.

Resource & Material Facts
Key figures defining the scale and strategic importance of the raw materials BARREL sources, mines, and develops for its clean energy technology portfolio.
Why Vertical Integration Wins
In the global energy transition, material scarcity is the hidden bottleneck. Lithium, uranium, and specialty chemicals are the new oil — and the companies that control them control the pace and cost of decarbonisation. BARREL's Resources & Mining vertical is our direct answer to that challenge.
By owning our material supply chain from the ground up, BARREL delivers four critical competitive advantages that no purely project-development competitor can replicate — cost, quality, security, and speed.
Cost Advantage
In-house material supply eliminates third-party margins and commodity price exposure — enabling BARREL to deliver storage and nuclear projects at materially lower cost than market-dependent competitors.
Supply Security
No dependence on spot market availability or geopolitical disruption. BARREL's material reserves and long-term supply agreements ensure project timelines are never compromised by material shortages.
Quality Control
Processing materials in our own facilities to our own specifications ensures that Lithium Valley BESS cells, molten salt systems, and nuclear fuel supplies consistently meet the highest performance standards.
